John Neiuber established Rubicon Recordings in 2004. The recording label was created to showcase the music of John Harrelson, a musician and songwriter with a catalog of over 4500 songs. Harrelson passed away in June of 2016, after a years’ long battle with heart disease and diabetes.
Neiuber and Harrelson, two life-long friends, met in 1966, while in high school and worked together on various musical projects in the sixties and seventies. Neiuber managed a popular band, Hard Luck Boy, which Harrelson fronted in the late 1960s. The duo even paired at one time to form their own band that Neiuber fronted.
They both shared a love for the blues and the influence it had on rock. That influence can be heard in the music of John Harrelson. Since 2005, and up until his death, the duo produced seven albums, the last being the soundtrack to Dead Man Rockin’ – John Harrelson’s Life in Music, a documentary chronicling Harrelson’s journey in the music business.
Neiuber continues cataloging and promoting Harrelson’s music worldwide, which he promised to Harrelson that he would do prior to his death, because, they agreed, through music one can achieve immortality.
